9 Namibia Winter Camping Essentials

9 Namibia Winter Camping Essentials

Camping under the Namibian Milky Way and cooking over an open fire is unforgettable. But during winter (June - August), temperatures fall dramatically as soon as the sun goes down. People underestimate how cold it can get during these months in Namibia despite the warmer temperatures during the day.

If you're camping in Namibia this winter, here are 9 items you CANNOT leave behind:

  1. Warm sleeping bag (ideally with shoulder drawstrings)
  2. Insulated mattress (either a blow-up or compact foam)
  3. Hot water bottle (game-changer for inside your sleeping bag)
  4. Camping kettle (for warm water & morning coffee)
  5. Head torch (essential)
  6. Extra blankets + face cover/balaclava (your face can get very cold)
  7. Sealed tent (check all zips are working as cold air leaks easily inside)
  8. Flour & yeast (remote shops often lack fresh bread; come prepared to bake over the fire)
  9. Thick puffer jacket & thick trousers

Being too cold at night will ruin your experience - don’t leave it to chance. We’d recommend being over prepared.
