Day 1: Windhoek

Arrive in Windhoek to commence your itinerary. A representative will transfer you from the airport to the vehicle rental depot to complete hire formalities, followed by a briefing to receive your route documentation, maps, and travel vouchers.

When you're there: Check into your accommodation and spend the afternoon at leisure. For evening dining, local options near the city center include Joe’s Beerhouse for regional specialties and traditional atmosphere.

Day 2 & 3: Sossusvlei

Depart Windhoek and drive south toward the Namib Desert (approximately 5 to 6 hours driving time).

On the way: The route transitions from the acacia savanna of the central highlands down into the Namib Desert basin. Travelers can route via Rehoboth and cross the Escarpment via either the Remhoogte or Spreetshoogte Pass toward Solitaire. Alternatively, travel south via Mariental and Maltahöhe via the Tsaris Pass, which offers an optional side trip to Duwisib Castle.

When you're there: Plan an early departure to reach the Sesriem Gate at sunrise. Key sites inside the park include Dune 45, Big Daddy, Sossusvlei, and the clay pan at Deadvlei. Visitors may undertake self-guided walks or book lodge-guided dune excursions.

Day 4 & 5: Swakopmund

Drive north across the central Namib gravel plains to the Atlantic coast and the town of Swakopmund (approximately 5 hours driving time).

On the way: Watch for Hartmann’s mountain zebra and springbok across the plains. Recommended stops include Solitaire for refreshments, the Kuiseb Canyon viewpoints, and scenic detours to the Moon Landscape and ancient Welwitschia mirabilis plants.

When you're there: Swakopmund offers coastal dining, craft markets, and access to regional activities. Highlights in neighboring Walvis Bay include the RAMSAR-designated lagoon, noted for seasonal populations of flamingos and pelicans.

Day 6: Damaraland

Travel north along the Skeleton Coast before turning inland to Damaraland, a region defined by granite inselbergs, dry river courses, and open gravel plains.

On the way: Drive via Henties Bay to Cape Cross to view the Cape fur seal breeding colony. Lunch options include Cape Cross Lodge or roadside picnic areas. Inland detours encompass the lichen fields, views of the Brandberg Massif, and the rock art and geological sites at Twyfelfontein, Burnt Mountain, and the Organ Pipes. Coastal routing via Torra Bay also passes several historical shipwreck remains.

When you're there: Explore the dry Huab River bed on guided 4x4 drives tracking desert-adapted elephant, rhino, and giraffe populations, or schedule a cultural visit to the Damara Living Museum.

Day 7 & 8: Damaraland - Remote Areas

Continue north into the more remote northern sectors of the Kunene Region toward the Palmwag Concession.

On the way: Leave your vehicle at the designated pickup point for a scheduled guide transfer to the lodge. The drive into the concession functions as an afternoon scenic transfer through rugged basalt hills and gravel valleys.

When you're there: Spend a full day participating in lodge-guided activities within the concession. Options include guided walking safaris, nature drives, and game-tracking excursions focused on regional landscape features and endemic flora.

Day 9: Kaokoland

Transfer back to your rental vehicle after breakfast and drive north via secondary roads toward Opuwo in Kaokoland.

On the way: The route passes through the Uniab Canyon toward Warmquelle and Sesfontein (available refueling point), before ascending the Joubert Pass.

When you're there: Activities centered in Opuwo include lodge-guided visits to traditional Himba settlements, guided walks, bird watching, and scenic region drives. Early morning village visits are recommended.

Day 10: Etosha National Park - West

Route south and east toward Galton Gate to access the western sector of Etosha National Park, an area characterized by open grassy plains and lower visitor density relative to the central sector.

On the way: Wildlife viewing begins upon entering the park boundary or the adjacent private reserves.

When you're there: Afternoon game drives, bird watching, and photography drives are conducted within the park or on the neighboring private concession.

Day 11 & 12: Etosha National Park - South

Transit through the park from the western sector toward Anderssons Gate on the southern boundary, spending the day conducting self-drive game viewing along established waterhole circuits.

When you're there: Etosha supports large concentrations of game, including healthy populations of elephant, rhino, lion, giraffe, zebra, and various antelope species. Guests staying at nearby private reserves can combine self-drive park excursions with guided reserve activities.

Day 13 & 14: Etosha National Park - East

Continue game driving east across the park toward the Von Lindequist Gate.

On the way: Route past multiple waterholes along the edge of the main salt pan, stopping at leisure for game viewing.

When you're there: Options include self-guided drives in the park or joining open-vehicle guided drives and walking safaris offered by lodges on the neighboring Onguma Game Reserve.

Day 15: Central Namibia

Exit Etosha via the eastern gate and drive south toward the Waterberg district in Central Namibia (approximately 4 hours driving time).

On the way: Optional morning game drive prior to departure. Stops along the route include the Hoba Meteorite near Grootfontein and the sinkhole lakes of Otjikoto or Guinas.

When you're there: Arrive in the afternoon to access walking trails around the Waterberg Plateau or join scheduled lodge activities. Reserves such as Okonjima offer structured carnivore tracking and conservation education programs via the AfriCat Foundation.

Day 16: Windhoek

Travel south along the primary tarred road (B1) back to Windhoek and Hosea Kutako International Airport.
